National Organizations:

Active Minds is the only organization working to utilize the student voice to change the conversation about
mental health on college campuses.  By developing and supporting chapters of a student-run mental health
awareness, education, and advocacy group on campuses, the organization works to increase students’
awareness of mental health issues, provide information and resources regarding mental health and mental
illness, encourage students to seek help as soon as it is needed, and serve as liaison between students and
the mental health community.

American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) is the leading national professional medical
association dedicated to treating and improving the quality of life for children, adolescents, and families
affected by mental, behavioral, or developmental disorders.

American Counseling Association (ACA) is a not-for-profit, professional and educational organization that is
dedicated to the growth and enhancement of the counseling profession. The mission is to enhance the
quality of life in society by promoting the development of professional counselors, advancing the counseling
profession, and using the profession and practice of counseling to promote respect for human dignity and
diversity.

American Psychiatric Association works together to ensure humane care and effective treatment for all
persons with mental disorders, including intellectual disability and substance-related disorders.

American Psychological Association (APA) is a scientific and professional organization that represents
psychology in the United States. The mission is to advance the creation, communication and application of
psychological knowledge to benefit society and improve people's lives.

BringChange2Mind is an organization that developed a national anti-stigma campaign created by a
partnership between Glenn Close, CABF, Fountain House, and IMHRO.

Campaign for Mental Health Reform is a collaboration of 17 national organizations aligned to provide a united
voice on federal mental health policy. By monitoring federal legislation, administration activity, and public
education initiatives, the campaign works toward its goal of making mental health a national priority and
establishing early access, recovery, and quality in mental health services as hallmarks of our nation’s
healthcare delivery system.

Center for Effective Collaboration and Practice (CECP) mission is to support and promote a reoriented
national preparedness to foster the development and the adjustment of children with or at risk of developing
serious emotional disturbance.

Center for Psychiatric Rehabilitation is a research, training, and service organization dedicated to improving
the lives of persons who have psychiatric disabilities. Our work is guided by the most basic of rehabilitation
values, that first and foremost, persons with psychiatric disabilities have the same goals and dreams as any
other person.

Everyminute is a grassroots campaign uniting advocates, mental health professionals and organizations into
a single coalition creating a public forum advancing the need and benefit of increased mental health research.

Federation of Families for Childrens Mental Health (FFCMH) is a national family-run organization serves to:
Provide advocacy at the national level for the rights of children and youth with emotional, behavioral and
mental health challenges and their families, Provide leadership and technical assistance to a nation-wide
network of family run organizations, Collaborate with family run and other child serving organizations to
transform mental health care in America.

GAINS Center has operated as a national locus for the collection and dissemination of information about
effective mental health and substance abuse services for people with co-occurring disorders in contact with
the justice system. The GAINS Center is committed to the goal of transforming the nation's fragmented
mental health system and developing a recovery-oriented, consumer-driven system of care as described in
the report of the President's New Freedom Commission. The GAINS Center is uniquely poised to help states
forge collaborations among the mental health, substance abuse, and criminal justice systems.

Georgetown University Center for Child and Human Development (GUCCHD) has taken a leadership role in
addressing the mental health needs of children, youth and their families at the policy, training/consultation,
and research levels.

Homelessness Resource Center at SAMHSA seeks to improve the lives of people affected by homelessness
who have mental health conditions, substance use issues, and histories of trauma.

HopeToHealing exists to share stories of ordinary people representing a broad range of society from every
State and background who face the challenges of life with courage and hope enabling them to live very
successful and meaningful lives.

Mental Health America (MHA) is the nation's largest and oldest community-based network dedicated to
helping all Americans live mentally healthier lives. With our more than 300 affiliates across the country, we
touch the lives of millions. Advocating for changes in policy; educating the public; providing critical
information and delivering urgently needed programs and services.

Minds on the Edge: Facing Mental Illness is a multi-platform media project that explores severe mental illness
in America. The project is designed as a media catalyst to contribute to the conversation already underway
and help to move it forward.

Movement for Global Mental Health aims to improve services for people with mental disorders worldwide. In
so doing, two principles are fundamental: first, the action should be informed by the best available scientific
evidence; and, second, it should be in accordance with principles of human rights.

National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) has established itself as the most formidable grassroots mental
health advocacy organization in the country. Support and public education efforts are focused on educating
America about mental illness, offering resources to those in need, and insisting that mental illness become a
high national priority. Offers an array of peer education and training programs, initiatives and services for
individuals, family members, health care providers and the general public. Advocates have fought for policy
changes that raise the bar on mental illness care and promote treatment and research on par with other

National Anti-Stigma Clearinghouse was created to track negative stereotypes of mental illnesses and to
provide concerned activists with information about fighting prejudice.

National Association for Rights Protection and Advocacy (NARPA) promotes policies and pursues strategies
that result in individuals with psychiatric diagnoses making their own choices regarding treatment. We
educate and mentor those individuals to enable them to exercise their legal and human rights with a goal of
abolition of all forced treatment.

National Association for the Dually Diagnosed (NADD) is the leading North American expert in providing
professionals, educators, policy makers, and families with education, training, and information on mental
health issues relating to persons with intellectual or developmental disabilities.

National Institute on Mental Health (NIMH) mission is to transform the understanding and treatment of
mental illnesses through basic and clinical research, paving the way for prevention, recovery, and cure.

National Technical Assistance Center for Children's Mental Health (NTAC) works with states, tribes,
communities at the policy level and offers a range of opportunities, publications, and resources to assist
them in adopting new policies.

No Kidding, Me Too! is a public charity whose purpose is to remove the stigma attached to brain disease
(BD) through education and the breaking down of societal barriers. Our goal is to empower those with BD to
admit their illness, seek treatment and become even greater members of society.

NYU Child Study Center was founded to improve the treatment of child psychiatric disorders through
scientific practice, research, and education, and to eliminate the stigma of being or having a child with a
psychiatric disorder.

Recovery Resources & Support (RRS) mission is to improve the quality of lives of individuals affected by
mental health challenges and substance addictions by connecting and providing people and organizations
with effective recovery resources and support.

Repository of Recovery Resources is a one-stop source of information that can be used to promote and
create recovery-oriented mental health systems and increase awareness an understanding of the concept
and reality of recovery.

Screening for Mental Health (SMH) is dedicated to promoting the improvement of mental health by providing
the public with education, screening, and treatment resources.

Silver Ribbon Coalition promoted the silver ribbon campaign which is the acknowledged symbol throughout
the world for promoting public awareness of the need for support of people with brain disorders and
disabilities.

Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), an agency of the Department of
Health and Human Services (HHS), was established by an act of Congress in 1992 under Public Law 102-321.
SAMHSA was created as a services agency to focus attention, programs, and funding on improving the lives
of people with or at risk for mental and substance abuse disorders. SAMHSA's vision is consistent with the
President's New Freedom Initiative that promotes a life in the community for everyone.

Stand Up For Mental Health (SMH) teaches stand up comedy to people with mental illness as a way of
building their confidence and fighting public stigma, prejudice, and discrimination.

Treatment Advocacy Center is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating barriers to the timely
and effective treatment of severe mental illnesses. The organization promotes laws, policies and practices for
the delivery of psychiatric care and supports the development of innovative treatments for and research into
the causes of severe and persistent psychiatric illnesses, such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.


International:

Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is Canada's largest mental health and addiction teaching
hospital, as well as one of the world's leading research centres in the area of addiction and mental health.

World Federation for Mental Health is an international membership organization founded in 1948 to advance,
among all peoples and nations, the prevention of mental and emotional disorders, the proper treatment and
care of those with such disorders, and the promotion of mental health.

World Psychiatric Association (WPA) is an association of national psychiatric societies aimed to increase
knowledge and skills necessary for work in the field of mental health and the care for the mentally ill. It has
65 scientific sections, aimed to disseminate information and promote collaborative work in specific domains of
psychiatry. It has produced several educational programmes and series of books. It has developed ethical
guidelines for psychiatric practice, including the Madrid Declaration (1996).
