Information:
Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) provides a variety of services related to employment and maintenance of
employment for individuals with physical or mental disabilities. Vocational Rehabilitation helps individuals that
are qualified obtain necessary devices in order for them to go to school or work. Services may start as early
as the 11th Grade year of High School. Contact 317-232-1571
US DOE Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA) oversees grant programs that help individuals with
physical or mental disabilities to obtain employment and live more independently through the provision of
such supports as counseling, medical and psychological services, job training and other individualized
services.
US Office of Vocational and Adult Education (OVAE) administers, coordinates programs that are related to
adult education and literacy, career and technical education, and community colleges.
US Department of Labor (DOL) mission is to foster, promote, and develop the welfare of the wage earners,
job seekers, and retirees of the United States; improve working conditions; advance opportunities for
profitable employment; and assure work-related benefits and rights.

policy by developing and influencing the use of evidence-based disability employment policies and
practices, building collaborative partnerships, and delivering authoritative and credible data on
employment of people with disabilities.

National Network on Youth Transition (NNYT) mission is to improve practices, systems, and outcomes for
transition-age youth and young adults (14-29 years of age) with emotional and/or behavioral difficulties
(EBD).
Transition to Independence Process (TIP) system is to assist young people with emotional and/or behavioral
difficulties (EBD) in making a successful transition to adulthood with all young persons achieving, within their
potential, their goals in the transition domains of education, employment, living situation, and community life.
Transition-Aged Youth Community of Practice (Listserv) provides an opportunity for discussion,
collaboration, and the exchange of ideas and resources related to transition-aged youth with mental health
challenges currently served by system of care communities. Through networking opportunities, the system
of care communities serving these young people will be better able to provide the necessary and desired
assistance to those youth transitioning from adolescence to adulthood.
National Center on Secondary Education and Transition (NCSET) coordinates national resources, offers
technical assistance, and disseminates information related to secondary education and transition for youth
with disabilities in order to create opportunities for youth to achieve successful futures.
National Secondary Transition Technical Assistance Center (NSTTAC) is a national Technical Assistance and
Dissemination center. In order to ensure full implementation of IDEA and help youth with disabilities and their
families achieve desired post-school outcomes, NSTTAC will help states build capacity to support and
improve transition planning, services, and outcomes for youth with disabilities and disseminate information
and provide technical assistance on scientifically-based research practices with an emphasis on building and
sustaining state-level infrastructures of support and district-level demonstrations of effective transition
methods for youth with disabilities.
Indiana Secondary Transition Resource Center through Center on Community Living and Careers will create
and provide professional development activities, develop and coordinate the Cadre of Transition Teacher
Leaders to more effectively support students with disabilities and their families, work collaboratively to
develop a coordinated system for professional development activities and support the Indiana Department of
Education’s Office of Special Education.
Living Well with a Psychiatric Disability in Work and School from Center for Psychiatric Rehabilitation is an
interactive and informative web site for people with a psychiatric condition that addresses issues and
reasonable accommodations related to work and school.

Division on Career Development and Transition (DCDT) mission is to promote national and international
efforts to improve the quality of and access to, career/vocational and transition services, increase the
participation of education in career development and transition goals and to influence policies affecting career
development and transition services for persons with disabilities.
Ticket to Work Program provides most people receiving Social Security benefits (beneficiaries) more choices
for receiving employment services. Under this program the Social Security Administration (SSA) issues ticket
to eligible beneficiaries who, in turn, may choose to assign those tickets to an Employment Network (EN) of
their choice to obtain employment services, vocational rehabilitation services, or other support services
necessary to achieve a vocational (work) goal. The EN, if they accept the ticket, will coordinate and provide
appropriate services to help the beneficiary find and maintain employment.
Healthy & Ready to Work (HRTW) desired outcome is that all youth with special health care needs receive the
services necessary to transition to all aspects of adulthood, including adult health care, employment and
independence.
Casey Life Skills Assessments are free, online suite of easy-to-use tools allows youth to assess their
strengths in life skills such as money management, work and study habits, self-care, and readiness for
seeking a job and housing. Provides instant feedback and customized learning plans. Chafee Assessment
this free assessment was created for adolescents in care, young adults who have emancipated from care or
are in aftercare.
